SECURITY_AD_USE_SASL_AUTHENTICATION

Optional. When specified, enables or disables simple authentication and security level (SASL).

When left unspecified, SASL authentication is disabled.

When connecting to Active Directory over an unencrytped communications channel, it is highly recommended that SASL authentication is enabled. Note that communication over the LDAP port 389 is unencrypted, while communication over the LDAPS port 636 is encrypted.
