Request and Install a License

By default, license files are installed to C:\ProgramData\Safe Software\FME Server\licenses.

Online Mode

If you have an Internet connection, you can request and install a license online without any need for downloading and re-uploading a license file.

  1. Open the FME Server Web User Interface as a user with Manage Engines permission (such as a member of the fmeadmin role). If none of your FME Server engines are licensed, you will see a prompt to activate FME Server. Click Yes. Otherwise, navigate to the Engines & Licensing page (select Manage > Administration > Engines & Licensing).
  2. Click Request License.
  3. On the Request a New License page, select Yes under "Use automatic licensing via the internet?"
  4. Complete the remaining fields. If you have a product serial number, be sure to provide it. If not, you will receive a 7-day evaluation license, which you can extend to 30 days (see below).
  5. Click OK.
  6. A message indicates that your license is installed, and your available engines appear momentarily under "Licensed Engines."

Offline Mode

If you do not have an Internet connection, use this process to install a license.

  3. On the Request a New License page, select No under "Use automatic licensing via the internet?"
  4. Complete the remaining fields. If you have a product serial number, be sure to provide it. If not, you will receive a 7-day evaluation license, which you can extend to 30 days (see below).
  5. Click OK. A license request .json file downloads.
  6. E-mail the .json file to codes@safe.com.
  7. When you receive an e-mail with a license file, download the file.
  8. Return to the Engines & Licensing page, and click Upload License File. Or, drag and drop the file onto the page. A message indicates that it is installed, and your available engines appear under "Licensed Engines."

Extending an Evaluation License

If you installed a 7-day evaluation license, you should have an e-mail from codes@safe.com that allows you to extend the license to 30 days.

  1. Open the e-mail and click the link as instructed.
  2. A web page opens indicating the request was successful. Additionally, a link is provided to download the license file. Click the link to download the file for safekeeping.
  3. Return to the Engines & Licensing page and click Refresh License. The license should now be extended accordingly. The EXPIRES field shows the new expiry date.
