Bentley MicroStation Design (V7) Writer Parameters
Specifies how FME feature coordinates are interpreted and converted into Units of Resolution (UORs).
- Master: UORs are converted into master units.
- Sub: UORs are converted into subunits.
- UOR: UORs are written as raw UOR coordinates.
Controls whether or not fill linkages will be written out for ellipses, shapes, and solids.

Set the location of the seed file, which controls whether or not the output design file is two-dimensional or three-dimensional, and sets the models, the global origin, and the unit information of the destination Design file.
Optionally specify a design file cell library, which contains definitions of symbols that can be placed in the output design file.
If a translation to design file fails because of insufficient ground range, FME detects this and will automatically supply these settings for the next translation.
Advanced
Specifies how you want to store the two-point line features.
- Type 3 Elements: Two-point line features are stored as type 3 line elements.
- Type 4 Elements: Two-point line features are stored as type 4 line elements.
If selected, indicates that the coordinates of named cells written to the destination should be scaled from the coordinate space of the cell model to the coordinate space of the seed model (which is used as the destination).
This affects shared and unshared cells that do not have a cell size set (that is, igds_cell_size, or igds_cell_size_x and igds_cell_size_y). This behavior is similar to the setting for True Scale when placing cells in MicroStation.
This parameter controls whether or not double-byte-character-set (DBCS) text is mangled when text strings are written. MicroStation uses special header bytes to mangle DBCS text.
If this parameter is set to Yes, then these special bytes will be output when a DBCS text string is encountered.
Note that the IGDS reader automatically de-mangles DBCS text.
This option is supported for V7 only. The values are ignored for V8.
Splits Version 7 DGN files that are larger than 32 MB.
Sets the size of the output file, in MB. It is applicable only when Split Files is set to Yes.
The default cell used in place of any cells requested but not found in the cell library.
If set, this parameter indicates that text features may use the Resource (RSC) font file specified to assist in text element placement, size, and range calculation.
This only applies to text features with RSC font IDs specified in the igds_font attribute, and which are found in the specified RSC file to be symbolic fonts. If this parameter is not specified, text elements with symbolic RSC fonts will have their placement, size, and range estimated.
Deselect this option to scan the input data and automatically compute and use optimal parameters for the input data.
You may want to use this setting if the seed file you selected does not provide a large enough real-world area for the output data.
Selecting this option enables the parameters Override Global Origin and Override Units.
This option is supported for V7 only; the values are ignored for V8.
By default, the global origin is at the center of the design plane/cube. You can override the global origin by setting the values of X, Y, and Z.
Setting these values overwrites the global origin as read from the DGN file.
- UOR X Global Origin: The global origin of X measured in UORs, from the lower left corner of the design plane/cube. Value: unsigned 32-bit integer.
- UOR Y Global Origin: The global origin of Y measured in UORs, from the lower left corner of the design plane/cube. Value: unsigned 32-bit integer.
- UOR Z Global Origin: The global origin of Z measured in UORs, from the lower left corner of the design plane/cube Value: unsigned 32-bit integer.
You can overwrite the unit values by selecting this option and entering values for the following:
- Master Units: The two-character master unit name to use. Overrides values read from the seed file. Valid value: unsigned integer ratio.
- Sub Units: The two-character sub unit name to use. Overrides values read from the seed file. Valid value is a string of up to 2 characters (for example, , ft for feet.
- Sub Units Per: The number of sub units per master unit. Overrides values read from the seed file. Valid value: unsigned integer ratio.
- UORs Per: The number of UORs per sub unit. Overrides values read from the seed file. Value: unsigned integer ratio.
