EnvironmentVariableFetcher

Fetches the specified environment variable and includes it in a new attribute.

Environment variables are convenient especially if certain standard folders and parameters need to be referenced in a workspace, but the actual locations or names can vary from computer to computer.

The available variables will depend on which platform you are using.

Within an FME workspace you could use the value retrieved to:

  • Define the output location of a dataset (in conjunction with Feature Type Fanout, which is described in the FME Workbench help files)
  • Define the location of a file for the AttributeFileWriter or AttributeFileReader
  • Define the location of a workspace to run with the WorkspaceRunner
  • Write the value to some type of metadata output
