Esri Geodatabase Formats

The Geodatabase reader and writer modules allow FME to store data in and retrieve data from Esri’s Geodatabase.

See Esri Geodatabase Quick Facts for information about individual Geodatabase formats.

Support for Esri 3D Objects Feature Layers – FME can read 3D Object Feature Layers, which Esri introduced in ArcGIS Pro 2.7.

Writing to 3D Object Feature Layers is planned, but not yet supported.

Working with FME and Esri Geodatabase Formats

FME offers extensive support for various Esri-related formats. The FME Knowledge Base article Notes on FME and Esri Versions and Compatibility discusses working with Esri-dependent formats in FME and the compatible software versions from Safe Software and Esri.

FME Flow: For information on using FME Flow and Esri ArcGIS Software, please see Using FME Flow with Esri ArcGIS Software for supported options.

FME 32-bit Windows Support

FME supports 64-bit Windows only.

  • Personal Geodatabase: We recommend migrating to File Geodatabase if possible; however, an updated Personal Geodatabase Reader is available in 64-bit FME 2022.0.
  • All other Esri formats dependent on an Esri application (including File Geodatabase and Enterprise Geodatabase): We recommend installing ArcGIS Pro (64-bit), ArcGIS for Server, or ArcGIS for Desktop Background Geoprocessing (64-bit).
