Overview
Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) is an open, vendor-neutral standard for the exchange of Building Information Modelling (BIM) data. The IFC standard is maintained and published by BuildingSmart. The IFC standard is also published as ISO standard 16739.
Reader Overview
A new IFC reader was implemented in FME 2014. The previous reader implementation is now deprecated.
Workspaces that were created with the old reader implementation will continue to use the old implementation. You can also continue to create new workspaces that use the old reader implementation by selecting the Use Deprecated Reader parameter.
This documentation is applicable to the new reader implementation. For documentation about the deprecated reader, refer to the Industry Foundation Class STEP Files (IFC) Reader documentation released with FME 2014 or earlier.
The IFC reader will automatically detect the version of the IFC file it is reading, by analyzing the file header. The reader supports IFC2x, IFC2x2, IFC2x3 and IFC4.

The IFC writer will output files using the IFC2x3 or IFC4 specification.
