Installing for Active-Passive Failover
Before installing FME Server for active-passive failover, make sure you have:
- Read and understood Planning an FME Server Installation, including Active-Passive Architecture.
- Provided the prerequisites in Before Installation.
To perform an installation for active-passive failover:
- Obtain the Installer
- Install the FME Server Core and FME Engines on both the primary and failover machines.
- Configure the FME Server Cores for Failover.
- Install the FME Server Web Services.
- Configure the FME Server Database on your database server.
- Install the FME Engines on a Separate Machine from the FME Server Core machines. This step is optional if you installed the FME Engines with the FME Server Core in Step 2.
- Request and Install a License. (The license applies to both primary and failover machines, so you only need to perform this step once.)
- Update the Windows service accounts that run the FME System Services.
- (Upgrade Only) Restore your FME Server Configuration from a Previous Installation.
- (Optional) Configure a Notification To Monitor Failover.
What's Next?
- Test for Failover: Using this suggested process, test the installation to make sure jobs run to completion when failover occurs and when the system is restored to its original state.
- Optimize: You can scale-up your active-passive system by:
- Adding FME Engines on separate machines that are closer to your data.
- Increasing the number of FME Engines that run when you start FME Server.
