Monitoring Instance Events with Alerts

You can configure an FME Cloud instance to send notifications about events that occur on an instance, such as when an instance changes status, or when security patches are available.

You can specify the following events to trigger a notification:

  • Instance started: The instance status switches from PAUSED to RUNNING.
  • Instance paused: The instance changes status from RUNNING to PAUSED.
  • Instance rebooted: The instance is rebooted.
  • Instance action failed: The instance fails to change status.
  • Tip: In this event, we recommend you retry changing the status, and check if successful.

  • Fatal error: A fatal error occurred during an instance status change.
  • Note: In this event, the Safe support team is also notified, and will contact you as soon as possible. No hourly fees are charged for an instance as a result of a fatal error.

  • Security patch available: A new security patch needs to be applied.
  • Note: This event only applies to instances that are configured for User initiated security updates.

  • Reboot required: An instance needs rebooting to apply security updates.

To add an instance event notification

  1. Go to the FME Cloud dashboard (https://console.fmecloud.safe.com/instances).
  2. Select the instance you want to configure.
  3. Under the instance name, select the Events tab.
  4. Under NAME, select the type of event you want to trigger a notification (see above).
  5. Under NOTIFY, select the recipient of the notification. You can specify the e-mail address of an FME Cloud account member, or a previously-created notification group.
  6. Note: If the account member or notification group is removed after the event notification is created, the instance is highlighted on the dashboard to indicate that an existing event notification must be modified with a new recipient.

  7. Under ADD/REMOVE, click the Add icon.

To modify an instance event notification

  1. Go to the FME Cloud dashboard (https://console.fmecloud.safe.com/instances).
  2. Select the instance containing the event you want to modify.
  3. Under the instance name, select the Events tab.
  4. Under NAME, you can change the type of event you want to trigger the notification. Under NOTIFY, you can change the recipient of the notification.

To remove an instance event notification

  1. Go to the FME Cloud dashboard (https://console.fmecloud.safe.com/instances).
  2. Select the instance containing the event you want to remove.
  3. Under the instance name, select the Events tab.
  4. Under ADD/REMOVE, click the Remove icon of the event notification you want to remove.
