Locating Transformers

FME contains hundreds of transformers, and it can sometimes be challenging to locate the ones you need. There are several ways to source the proper transformer:

• Category
• Name and Description
• Quick Add

By default, the Transformer Gallery is a tab beneath the FME Workbench Navigator pane. Click the Transformer Gallery tab to display the transformer folders.

Click the undock button to separate the pane from the main FME Workbench interface.

Transformer Categories

Transformer categories are a good starting point from which to explore the Transformer Gallery. Transformers are grouped in categories applicable to their associated functionality.

3D	Transformers that create or manipulate 3D geometry and formats, including surfaces, solids, meshes, and appearances.
Attributes	Transformers to manage attributes, attribute values, and lists.
Calculated Values	Transformers to calculate values using attributes, geometry, coordinates, dates and times, statistics, expressions, user parameters, and more.
Cartography and Reports	Transformers that prepare and style data for visual presentation and reporting.
Coordinates	Transformers that manipulate coordinates and coordinate systems, including reprojection, georeferencing, warping, and coordinate extraction.
Data Quality	Transformers useful for analyzing data quality, validating attributes and geometry.
Filters and Joins	Transformers for dividing and merging data in a workflow based on attribute values, geometry characteristics, and spatial relationships.
Format-Specific	Transformers related to specific data formats, or that require selection of a format.
Geometries	Transformers that create or manipulate geometry.
Integrations	Transformers that integrate external tools such as web services and apps.
Point Clouds	Transformers used with point cloud features.
Rasters	Transformers used with raster features.
Spatial Analysis	Transformers that provide information or manipulate geometry based on spatial relationships.
Strings	Transformers to manipulate strings, including dates.
Web	Transformers related to data and services on the internet and web-based usage of languages such as XML and JSON.
Workflows	Transformers that control workflow, performing tasks such as data reading and writing, database queries, feature routing, logging and inspection, handling of variables and parameters, and external calls.

You can create your own folders to store any transformers that you create. These folders are saved as an external definition, so you can also share them with other users. In the example shown above, the Cities folder contains custom transformers.

Transformer Names and Descriptions

You can search the gallery for both transformer names and descriptions.

Enter a keyword in the Search field. The keyword can be a partial transformer name, or one or more keywords that describe its function.

FME Workbench displays a Search Results node that contains a list of transformers whose name or descriptions contain the matching keyword.

Using Quick Add

Quick Add is the easiest way to add transformers to the workspace.
