Publishers

FME Hub supports three publishing tiers:

  • Safe Official
  • Verified
  • Community

Safe Software Official Publishers

Items under the Safe Software Official publisher are exclusively created by Safe Software. These items uphold the same quality standards as our transformers and formats that are shipped with the product. They are secure, well-maintained, and come with the same support guarantees as our standard components.

Each Safe Official item is thoroughly documented, promotes best practices, and is designed to cater to the most common use cases. You can confidently incorporate these items into your production workflows.

Updates to Safe Official items are rolled out independently of the standard FME release schedule, ensuring you have access to the latest enhancements as soon as they're available.

To help you quickly identify Safe Official items on FME Hub, we marked them with a special badge. This badge is a symbol of our commitment to quality and reliability.

Verified Publisher Program

FME Hub is expanding its publisher model to include a new tier: Verified Publishers. This tier allows third-party contributors to provide high-quality content to the FME Hub, enhancing trust and reliability for users.

Verified Publishers are a select group of contributors who commit to delivering production-quality content. Unlike the Community tier, which is open to all and has no quality control or support guarantees, Verified Publishers are held to a higher standard. They are expected to support, maintain, and ensure the security of their published items. This commitment makes Verified items trustworthy and reliable for users.

For Content Providers

The Verified Publisher provides several benefits to FME Hub publishers.

  1. Increased Visibility: The publisher's page, marked with the Verified badge, links directly to their website, enhancing their online presence and promotion.

  2. Priority Search Ranking: Verified content is given priority, appearing more prominently in FME Hub Search and FME Form Quick Add, making it easier for users to discover and use their contributions.

Becoming a Verified Publisher

To apply, contributors can fill out the form on the Verified Publisher Program page on FME Hub. Applications can be submitted by individuals or organizations. To qualify to be a Verified Publisher, the third-party must:

  1. Have Demonstrated Expertise: The organization should have a proven track record of creating high-quality FME components. While not a requirement, it is expected that they have staff members who hold FME certifications, indicating a high level of proficiency with the platform.

  2. Sustained Commitment: The organization must have the resources and commitment to provide ongoing maintenance for the items they publish. This includes the ability to respond to user feedback, make necessary updates, and ensure compatibility with new FME releases.

Content Requirements

The Publisher will be Verified rather than each individual item. Verified items will take a much larger commitment from the publisher. Verified items are:

  • Production Quality: Verified items must meet high standards of quality and functionality. They should be thoroughly tested and free of bugs. The design and implementation should be robust, ensuring that the item performs well under a variety of conditions and use cases. The user interface, if applicable, should be intuitive and user-friendly.

  • Support and Maintenance: Verified publishers are expected to provide ongoing support for their items. This includes addressing user queries, troubleshooting issues, and providing clear and comprehensive documentation. Publishers are also responsible for maintaining their items, which includes regular updates to improve functionality, fix bugs, and ensure compatibility with new versions of FME and other relevant software.

  • Security: Security is a paramount concern for Verified items. Publishers must ensure that their items do not pose any security risks. This includes, but is not limited to, preventing data leaks, protecting against attacks, and ensuring the privacy of user data. Publishers should follow best practices for secure coding and regularly update their items to address any newly discovered security vulnerabilities.

Maintaining Quality Standards

In order to ensure the highest quality standards, Safe Software reserves the right to remove any Verified item for any reason. Additionally, we may perform quality checks on any Verified item. If an item fails to meet our quality standards, we will review the other Verified items from the same Publisher. If a significant number of items fail these checks, the Publisher may lose their "Verified" status.

What Can Verified Publishers Publish?

Verified Publishers have the freedom to publish any supported content on FME Hub, including Packages, Custom Transformers, FME Server Projects, Templates, Formats, and Web Connections. However, for anything beyond simple transformers, we recommend using the Python Package SDK and Transformer Designer. This approach allows for the creation of higher-quality, code-based transformers compared to Custom Transformers.

Can I transition an existing publisher from Community to Verified?

Yes, existing publishers can transition from the Community tier to Verified. However, this requires direct communication with Safe Software. It's crucial to ensure that all content within the publisher meets the quality standards of the Verified tier. In some cases, it may be necessary to create a secondary Community publisher and migrate some content.

Community Publishers

Community Publishers form the backbone of the FME Hub, contributing a wide variety of items that enrich the FME ecosystem. This tier is open to all users and encourages the sharing of creative solutions and innovative tools.

What does it mean to be a Community Publisher?

As a Community Publisher, you have the freedom to publish any item that adheres to the FME Hub's guidelines. This includes custom transformers, templates, formats, web connections, and more. While there are no strict maintenance or support requirements for Community Publishers, we encourage you to update your items regularly and respond to user feedback to enhance their value to the community.

What are the benefits of becoming a Community Publisher?

Becoming a Community Publisher allows you to share your expertise with the global FME community. Your contributions can help other users solve similar problems, learn new techniques, and get more out of FME. Plus, every item you publish increases your visibility within the community, showcasing your skills and knowledge.

How do you become a Community Publisher?

Becoming a Community Publisher is easy. All you need is a free FME Hub account. Once you've created your account, you can start uploading and managing your items. Remember, the quality of your contributions reflects on your reputation, so we recommend following best practices and guidelines to ensure your items are useful, reliable, and easy to understand.
