FME Transformers: 2025.0

Calculated Values

Counter

Adds a numeric attribute to a feature and assigns a value. Each subsequent feature passing through the transformer receives an incremented value, counting the features.

This transformer can be useful for assigning a unique, numeric ID number to a set of features, for counting the number of features, or for creating a basic histogram for values of a given attribute.

Count Scope and Multiple Counters

Two methods of counting are available. The Count Scope choices are:

  • Global: A count may include features at more than one location in the workspace.
  • Local: Each count is restricted to features passing through the current Counter.

Global Counts

The Count Domain parameter determines how features are counted when the Count Scope is Global and multiple Counters are placed in the workspace.

Each Counter with the same Count Domain value will be combined into a single count.

Note  Using feature caching in conjunction with global counts will likely produce unexpected results and is not recommended.
