You are here: Data Inspector Interface > Log

Log

The Log window reports information related to the reading and showing of a dataset, which you can use to confirm that data was read correctly. It shows statistics and processing information whenever you open a dataset.

Data Inspector saves the ten most-recent log files to the location specified at the top of the Log window. By default, this location is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\FMEDataInspector\logs\. To prevent Data Inspector from removing an old log file from this location, rename the file.

Alternatively, you can copy information directly from the Log window: Place the cursor in the Log window, right-click to display the context menu, and select Save Log Text; or press Ctrl+S.

The Log window contains a toolbar that provides the following functions:

  • Filter messages based on type:
    • Error: When selected, ERROR and FATAL messages display.
    • Warning: When selected, WARN messages display.
    • Information: When selected, messages that are not ERROR, FATAL, or WARN display.
    • You can apply more than one filter. To navigate to the next place in the log (from the position of the cursor) where Error or Warning messages occur, use the corresponding "Find Next" or "Find Previous" arrow buttons.

  • Wrap the text around the Log window.
  • Display or hide line numbers.
  • Find text.
  • Find next instance of text that was previously searched in "Find text".
