Catalog Service

The Catalog service allows users to download workspaces, templates, custom formats, and custom transformers from FME Server through the Web User Interface.

Description

A workspace, template, custom format, or custom transformer registered using FME Workbench with the Catalog service makes it available for download by users with FME Workbench through the Web User Interface.

In the Repositories page, 'Catalog Service' appears under 'Registered Services' for any registered workspace, as shown in the following example:

Here the austinApartments.fmw workspace has been registered with the Catalog service, making it available for download.

Downloading a cataloged workspace is a two-step process:

From the Repositories page, open the workspace. Under Catalog Service, click Run. This doesn’t run a workspace but instead downloads a small .fmc file. This file does not contain the resources themselves. It contains information about how to download the actual resources from FME Server. Downloaded .fmc files are displayed using this icon:
If the .fmc file has been downloaded (or copied) to a system on which FME Workbench is installed, double-clicking on the file will cause Workbench to start, connect to FME Server, prompt for security credentials if required, download and save the workspace locally and finally display it as usual for inspection and modification.

Requirements

There are no requirements on a workspace, template, custom transformer, or custom format for it to be registered with the Catalog service. However, users wishing to download cataloged items must have FME Workbench installed to perform the download.
